White Sox purchase contract of Chris Volstad from Triple-A Charlotte; transfer Carlos Rodón to 60-day disabled list

Prior to tonight's game at Minnesota, the Chicago White Sox purchased the contract of right-handed pitcher Chris Volstad from Class AAA Charlotte and transferred left-hander Carlos Rodón to the 60-day disabled list to clear room on the 40-man roster for Volstad.

Volstad, 31, takes the roster spot of right-hander Gregory Infante, who was optioned to Charlotte following yesterday's game. The 6-foot-8, 235-pound Volstad has made one start with Charlotte this season, allowing five runs on six hits over 4.2 IP on April 6 at Durham. He went 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA (14.0 IP) over eight appearances (one start) during spring training, allowing just three hits with one walk and nine strikeouts.

Volstad is 36-53 with a 4.66 ERA (396 ER/725.0 IP) in 137 games (125 starts) over eight major-league seasons with Florida (2008-11), Chicago-NL (2012), Colorado (2013), Pittsburgh (2015) and the White Sox (2017). He will wear uniform No. 66.

Rodón, 25, was placed on the 10-day disabled list on March 28 (retroactive to March 26) to continue rehabilitation on his left shoulder. He is eligible for reinstatement from the disabled list as early as May 28. Rodón was limited to 12 starts last season due to left biceps bursitis and left shoulder inflammation, going 2-5 with a 4.15 ERA (32 ER/69.1 IP) and 76 strikeouts.

The White Sox 40-man roster remains at 40.
