Team to watch
While both Triple-A Vegas and Double-A Midland each have eight members of the Top 30 on their respective rosters, we’ll give the edge to the Double-A Texas League squad. Not only do the RockHounds have a tremendous 1-2 punch of Top 100 prospects in Leo De Vries and Jamie Arnold, they boast five of the A’s top 10 prospects, with De Vries and Arnold joined by No. 4 Wei-En Lin as well as Nos. 9 and 10, Tommy White and Joshua Kuroda-Grauer.
COMPLETE ATHLETICS PROSPECT COVERAGE
Players we could see in MLB in 2026
The A’s will continue to rely on their young players, and they aren’t shy about promoting, so anyone at the upper levels are fair game. Gage Jump could be one of the first pitchers called upon to help, but he’s just one of a number of arms in Las Vegas waiting for that call. But don’t be surprised to see those top two in Midland -- De Vries, who they got from the Padres in the Mason Miller deal, and Arnold, their first-round pick last July -- ascend to the highest level before the year is out.
New faces
All eyes will be on Arnold as he begins his pro debut. The Florida State lefty was billed as a super-advanced college arm and he was appropriately pushed up to Double-A to get things going. He could be on a short list of who from the Class of '25 is going to make it to the big leagues first. It won’t come for a while because he’ll be in the Dominican Summer League, but the A’s are excited to see what Johenssy Colome does out of the gate as their big 2026 international signee ($4 million bonus).
On the shelf
The A’s got Henry Baez in the Mason Miller deal, but didn’t get to see much of him post-trade as a forearm injury shut him down. They were hoping to really get to know him at the upper levels this year, but he’s sidelined with elbow trouble. Toolsy outfielder Gavin Turley, the club’s fourth-rounder last year, is recovering from a fractured hand while oft-injured hurler Gunnar Hoglund is out again with a lumbar spine strain.
