The strength of a 97-win A's squad was reflected in the American League Most Valuable Player Award voting results that were revealed Thursday.
A remarkable number of Oakland players appeared on the 30 ballots submitted this year: third baseman Matt Chapman (seventh) and designated hitter Khris Davis (eighth) finished in the Top 10, and second baseman Jed Lowrie and closer Blake Treinen also received votes.

AL batting champ Mookie Betts of the Red Sox took home the illustrious award, while Los Angeles' Michael Trout finished second and Cleveland's Jose Ramirez was third. Boston's J.D. Martinez, Houston's Alex Bregman and Cleveland's Francisco Lindor were next in line ahead of Chapman, who was one of seven players named on all ballots.
The A's infielder drew a pair of third-place votes, four fifth-place votes, nine sixth-place votes, 12 seventh-place votes, two eighth-place votes and a ninth-place vote. Nine of the 16 votes Davis brought in were for eighth place.
Ballots were cast by two Baseball Writers' Association of America members from each league city ahead of the postseason.
Chapman totaled 24 home runs and 68 RBIs over 145 games in his first full big league season, all the while establishing himself as one of the game's elite defenders. His 29 defensive runs saved topped all players and led third basemen by a wide margin, earning him not only a Gold Glove but a Platinum Glove, which recognizes the best defender in each league.

Davis was an absolute force at the plate, impacting this A's lineup like no other. He led the Majors with 48 home runs and ranked second with a career-high 123 RBIs, marking his third consecutive season with at least 40 homers and 100 RBIs.
Lowrie was immensely valuable on both sides of the ball, earning All-Star honors alongside Treinen, who compiled 38 saves and established a 0.78 ERA -- the lowest in Major League history among pitchers with 80 or more innings. The right-hander finished tied for sixth in AL Cy Young voting for his tremendous campaign.
