Stroman intends to pitch for USA in Classic

Blue Jays right-hander announced on Saturday that he plans to pitch for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic.
Stroman, who was eligible to pitch for the United States or Puerto Rico, told reporters on Friday at the David Ortiz Celebrity Golf Classic that he intended to pitch in the tournament but didn't say for which team. Stroman's mother was born and raised in Puerto Rico. Stroman was born in Medford, N.Y., and attended Duke University.

The 25-year-old joins a list of other Major League stars to volunteer to play for Team USA, including , , , and .
Stroman went 9-10 with a 4.37 ERA over 32 starts in 2016.
Team USA will compete against the Dominican Republic, Canada and Colombia in Pool C from March 9-12 at Marlins Park.
