Tulo back on track after key two-bagger

All-Star shortstop has three-game hitting streak

April 20th, 2016

BALTIMORE -- Slowly but surely, the Blue Jays are starting to see some signs of life at the plate from All-Star shortstop Troy Tulowitzki.
Tulowitzki got off to a well-documented slow start and the consistency has yet to surface, but there was cause for optimism Tuesday night. Tulowitzki delivered the big blow of the game with a two-run double that loomed large in Toronto's 4-3 victory over the Orioles.
The 31-year-old Tulowitzki now has a hit in three consecutive games, which might not seem like much, but considering he started the year 1-for-28, it's something. The timing of this one could not have been better.
"Like everybody else, I think it's just a matter of time," Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said. "Back when we acquired Tulo, he really hasn't hit his stride, but when he gets hits, they're big ones. They seem to be meaningful."
Toronto was clinging to a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Tulowitzki stepped to the plate with two on and two outs. He hit a soft liner to left that got underneath a diving Joey Rickard and rolled all the way to the wall.
Michael Saunders and Jose Bautista each scored on the two-run double. That upped Tulowitzki's career RBIs at shortstop to 681, which is the most in the Major Leagues at that position dating back to 2006. More importantly, for Toronto, it meant three hits in three days, all of which came in victories.
