MILWAUKEE -- Brewers manager Pat Murphy is fond of the soup analogy familiar to Milwaukee fans by now. Building a baseball team, the story goes, is like making soup. Even if many of the ingredients are the same, the soup always tastes a little different.

As Murphy heads into his second season at the helm, it’s difficult to remember a year in which so many of the ingredients are the same. Shortstop and team leader Willy Adames left in free agency and the Brewers traded lockdown closer Devin Williams, but 15 of last year’s top 18 contributors (using Baseball-Reference WAR) are back with Milwaukee this year. To date, the Brewers have added one established player to the 40-man roster since the end of last season – left-handed starter , acquired in the Williams trade.

So, will the soup taste the same?

The slim chances of seeing Shohei Ohtani play a Spring Training road game are even slimmer considering it’s a Dodgers split-squad for Los Angeles’ only visit to AmFam Fields of Phoenix on Feb. 26. Still, that’s the only chance for Brewers fans to see the reigning World Series champions.

Saturday home games against the Rangers (March 1), Angels (March 8) and Athletics (March 15) figure to draw large crowds, but the Brewers’ only spring contest against the Cubs is on the road in Mesa, Ariz., on Tuesday, March 11 -- ’s 21st birthday.
