September 27th, 2020

The Brewers turned the ninth triple play in franchise history on Sunday, going around the horn in the bottom of the eighth inning in St. Louis.

Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina hit a ground ball to Brewers third baseman Jace Peterson, who fielded the high chopper right at the bag for the first out. Peterson then threw over to second baseman Keston Hiura for out No. 2, with the relay to first baseman Jedd Gyorko getting Molina with ease.

According to the triple play database maintained by the Society for American Baseball Research, the last Brewers triple play occurred on Sept. 23, 2016, vs. the Reds. St. Louis last hit into one on Aug. 15, 2017, vs. Boston.

The Cardinals went on to win, 5-2, and clinch a postseason berth. The Brewers also secured a playoff spot on the final day of the regular season.
