Milwaukee Brewers Unveil New Community Mural "Southside En La Hora Mágica" On South Side Of Milwaukee

May 22, 2026

The Milwaukee Brewers unveiled their first community mural of the year, “South Side en La Hora Mágica,” transforming the exterior of Paleteria Yayo into a glowing tribute to culture, memory and neighborhood pride.

Painted across the walls of the beloved Mexican-style ice cream and paleta shop, the mural captures a familiar Milwaukee scene: a paletero pushing his cart in front of American Family Field as schoolchildren crowd around, eager to choose their favorite flavor. It’s a moment that feels both every day and magical, an ode to the vendors who bring joy to warm summer afternoons and to the Latin community that shapes the heartbeat of the South Side.

Milwaukee artists Aisha Valentín and Whitney Salgado, working in partnership with Luna Creative Collaborations, infused the space with a radiant sunset gradient and “Wisco Way” colors. Their design layers together the stories of paleteros across the city.

As Salgado explained, “We talked about how they’re [paleteros] moving, gathering places, and they always bring community together wherever they go. When you hear their bells down the street or around the corner, everybody comes out and it’s just kind of this unspoken community.” More than a piece of public art, the mural stands as a reminder of the people who make Milwaukee feel like home.

The mural’s unveiling in May drew neighbors, families and local leaders to Paleteria Yayo for a celebration that felt as vibrant as the artwork itself. Among those in attendance were District 12 Alderman & Common Council President José G. Pérez, Commissioner of City Development Lafayette Crump, Brewers Chief Operating Officer Marti Wronski, Paleteria Yayo co-owners Rene Adan and Galy Montes and Luna Creative Collaborations owner Katie Avila Loughmiller.

Wronski praised the artists’ vision and deep sense of community. “We are very proud to add to the beauty to the South Side of Milwaukee. The artists did an amazing job showcasing all parts of Milwaukee, including love for baseball and the Brewers, Wisconsin summers, Latin culture and, above all, community.”

The Brewers mural initiative blends art, baseball and community with transforming public spaces into celebrations of teamwork, belonging and joy. Through partnerships with local artists and organizations, the club continues to expand its #BeyondTheDiamond efforts, bringing the “Wisco Way” message to life across the state. To date, the Brewers have supported seven murals in communities across Wisconsin, with installations in Milwaukee, Green Bay, Wauwatosa and West Allis, as well as additional cities slated for completion in 2026.
