PHILADELPHIA -- The St. Louis Cardinals placed right-hander on the 15-day injured list with a right flexor strain on Saturday.

Dobbins experienced right forearm tightness before and during his start in the Cardinals’ 7-6 loss in 10 innings to the Phillies on Friday night, prompting manager Oliver Marmol to lift him from the game after Dobbins had thrown just one pitch in the fifth inning.

Marmol said on Saturday that Dobbins will have further testing when the Cardinals return to St. Louis at the conclusion of this 11-game road trip, which ends Sunday in Philadelphia.

To take Dobbins’ place on the roster, the Cardinals recalled Saturday night’s starting pitcher, left-hander , from Triple-A Memphis. Mathews is 0-1 with a 3.00 ERA in two career starts and limited Cincinnati to two hits and one run in four innings on Monday in his most recent big league start. The 6-foot-5, 188-pounder is the Cardinals’ eighth-ranked prospect, according to MLB Pipeline.
