ST. LOUIS -- A long road back from numerous injuries for Cardinals left-hander Packy Naughton has hit another roadblock.
Cardinals manager Oli Marmol shared with reporters Saturday at Busch Stadium that Naughton suffered ligament damage in his left pitching elbow. While no definitive course of action has been plotted out, Marmol said the expectation is that the team will likely know more within the coming days.
Naughton, who last appeared in the Major Leagues with St. Louis in 2023 and is not currently on the club’s 40-man roster, was removed from his appearance in Wednesday’s game for Triple-A Memphis after experiencing clear discomfort following an errant pitch.
He missed the 2025 season following a re-tear of a previously repaired flexor tendon, in addition to a torn UCL that required its own surgical repair late in 2024.
The latest news of more ligament damage in Naughton’s left elbow is a devastating update for a player who has persevered through so many injury-related obstacles in recent years.
