Marlins interview McClendon for managerial job

Tigers hitting coach Lloyd McClendon, who has big league managing experience, interviewed with the Marlins on Tuesday, according to Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com.

McClendon has spent the past seven seasons with the Tigers, including six as the club's hitting coach.

Before joining Detroit, the 53-year-old managed the Pirates from 2001-05.

McClendon is the fourth candidate to interview with Miami since Ozzie Guillen was dismissed on Oct. 23.

As McClendon joined the mix, Reds pitching coach Bryan Price has withdrawn from the running.

Former Marlins catcher Mike Redmond, who managed Toronto's Class A Dunedin squad this year, was the first to meet with team owner Jeffrey Loria and the front office about the position.

Last Friday, Larry Bowa was interviewed.

Redmond and Bowa each were impressive in their respective interviews.

The two are believed to be the frontrunners. Redmond, 41, is an up-and-coming in the professional ranks, while Bowa, 66, offers plenty of experience.

Bowa has managed the Padres and the Phillies. After his tenure with Philadelphia ended in 2004, Bowa last was on the staff of Joe Torre with the Yankees and the Dodgers.

Bowa currently is an analyst with MLB Network.

On Monday, Bowa discussed his interview with the Marlins on Mad Dog Radio on Sirius XM.

"I've known Jeff Loria for a while," Bowa told radio host Chris Russo. "It was a good interview. I had a good time exchanging ideas and everything, and we'll see where that goes."
