Three-time All-Star gets two-year deal worth $20 million
The Mets officially added a significant piece to their starting rotation on Saturday, announcing a two-year contract with veteran right-hander Bartolo Colon.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but MLB.com reported on Wednesday that Colon will make $20 million.
Colon, the 2005 American League Cy Young Award winner, made his third All-Star team in 2013, going 18-6 with a 2.65 ERA in 30 starts for the A's. He struck out 117 and walked only 29 over 190 1/3 innings.
Colon should help the Mets fill the void left by Matt Harvey, who will spend the season recovering from Tommy John surgery. The 16-year veteran is coming off a resurgent two years in Oakland, although he also served a 50-game suspension after testing positive for synthetic testosterone.
