Could Cardinals have interest in Odorizzi?

Jake Odorizzi is suddenly a hot name on the market.

One day after CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reported the Dodgers had engaged in trade talks for the Rays right-hander, Jon Morosi of Fox Sports reports the Cardinals have contacted Tampa Bay about a starting pitcher. He notes that Odorizzi is from near St. Louis.

Odorizzi, 25, was 9-9 with a 3.35 ERA in 28 starts for the Rays last season, his second full year in the Majors. He was the Brewers' first-round Draft pick in 2008, went to Kansas City in the '10 Zack Greinke trade, and he was then sent to Tampa Bay in the James Shields /Wade Davis /Wil Myers deal.

Odorizzi is under club control until 2020.
