Thorpe sharp again in latest Triple-A rehab start

August 20th, 2026

made his second rehab start for Triple-A Charlotte and his sixth rehab start overall on Wednesday as he works his way back from 2025 Tommy John surgery. Following a strong first appearance for the Knights on Aug. 12, the right-hander turned in another solid outing in Charlotte’s 7-2 win over Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Here’s a look at the right-hander’s latest injury rehab start.

How did he perform?

Thorpe allowed two runs on five hits over five innings, striking out six and walking two. He threw 83 pitches, 51 for strikes.

“I’m just happy for him personally that he’s in a good spot and he’s out there competing after such a tough road to get back, and he’s such a good guy,” said White Sox manager Will Venable. “He’s worked so hard. Just really nice to see him out there.”

What’s next?

Thorpe remains in the mix to help the White Sox in late August or September.

“Absolutely,” said Venable when asked about Thorpe being in the future big league picture.

What are they saying?

“He’s getting good results, too. He’s pitching really well so we are excited about that and the opportunity to add a depth piece here down the stretch.” -- Venable

What else?

Thorpe, who was selected by the Yankees in the second round of the 2022 Draft out of Cal Poly, pitched his way onto MLB Pipeline’s Top 100 prospects list and was named MLB Pipeline’s Prospect Pitcher of the Year in 2023. That December, he was dealt to the Padres in the deal that sent Juan Soto to New York, and he was then dealt again the following March to the White Sox in the Dylan Cease trade.

Thorpe made his big league debut with Chicago in 2024, when he posted a 5.48 ERA over nine starts. His debut season was cut short when he had to have season-ending surgery to shave down a bone spur in his right elbow that September.
