Hosmer receives stitches after sauna mishap

April 22nd, 2019

SAN DIEGO -- had nine stitches inserted above his right eye on Saturday night after falling while exiting the team’s sauna. The Padres' first baseman felt light-headed because of the heat, and he briefly passed out and cut his forehead.

“I just fell,” Hosmer said. “It wasn’t fun, that’s for sure. But I’m OK.”

It was undoubtedly a scary moment. But Hosmer was evaluated and treated quickly by the team's training staff, which hadn't yet left for the night. He said he felt fine after a few minutes.

The stitches didn't seem to have any effect on Hosmer, who chipped in an RBI double in the Padres' 4-3 win on Sunday afternoon. He's hitting .214 on the season with a .608 OPS, but his performance this weekend suggests things could be turning for him at the plate.
