LOS ANGELES -- The Padres' revolving door of outfielders took another unfortunate turn Monday.
Left fielder was placed on the disabled list as he recovers from soreness in his right forearm. Cordero had been playing through soreness for the last week or two. But recently the Padres noticed it affecting his swing.
"It was something he could manage and not feel it," Green said. "But him swinging that way was not him playing baseball and performing at his peak level. If he can return and feel confident, take five, six days off and breathes, doesn't swing the bat, when he comes back in five more days, he should be OK."
Cordero is hitting .237/.307/.439 with seven homers in 40 games this season. But he's posted a .433 OPS over the last two weeks.
Cordero will join (left oblique tightness) on the disabled list. In the meantime, right fielder has been activated from Triple-A El Paso after missing a month with right elbow inflammation.
On Saturday, Green noted he would've liked for Renfroe to have found a groove at the plate in the Minors before his return. Renfroe is batting .220 with a .646 OPS in 10 games for El Paso.
Cordero's injury appears to have expedited the process. Renfroe will share regular playing time in the outfield with , and . will remain in his role as a do-everything fifth outfielder off the bench.
