SAN DIEGO -- It was a busy Monday for the Padres before they opened a three-game series with the visiting Marlins.
The Padres activated outfielder Hunter Renfroe from the disabled list. He has been out since April 21 with right elbow inflammation. San Diego placed rookie outfielder Franchy Cordero (right forearm strain) on the DL as the corresponding roster move.
Renfroe went 1-for-4 with an RBI infield single in the ninth inning of a 7-2 loss to the Marlins at Petco Park. Manager Andy Green is hopeful Renfroe's elbow has quieted and his bat will start making noise. He hit .220 with a double and two homers over 10 rehab games for Triple-A El Paso.
"He was down there for 10 games and we were kind of waiting for him to show us he was ready by the way he swung the bat,'' Green said. "He never got hot, so when I saw him today I said, 'You saved getting hot for up here?'"
Renfroe, who knocked 26 home runs last year, is appreciative his elbow responded to rehabilitation. Prior to the DL stint, he was batting .200 with two homers in 17 games.

"It was kind of surreal because I really thought I might have surgery," Renfroe said. "Thank goodness we don't have to have the surgery and I'm here."
Meanwhile, the team is optimistic Cordero, who was hitting .237, will rebound soon.
"We noticed his swing started to change and he was trying to fight through what he was feeling in the forearm,'' Green said. "He's been trying to compensate for what he's feeling. Hopefully he's back in short order."

Myers, Hedges injury updates
William Myers (left oblique strain) appeared to be getting closer to resuming baseball activities, while catcher Austin Hedges (right elbow tendinitis) has stalled in his comeback.
Myers was back with the team and set to see a team doctor, with indications that he'll start baseball activities soon -- although there's the realization that he's still about a month away from returning to the Padres.
"Now there is a light at the end of the tunnel,'' said Myers, who was batting .300 when he was hurt on April 29. "Before, we didn't know what was going to happen. So to see where it is, I feel good and I'm optimistic.''

The news isn't as upbeat regarding Hedges, who has been idle since May 1. His Minor League rehab stint in El Paso was halted as his elbow pain returned. Hedges was hitting .173 for the Padres before getting hurt.
"Hopefully the rest resolves that and in a few days he is playing again,'' Green said.

Waiting for Hughes
A clubhouse locker was cleared for right-hander Phil Hughes, who was acquired from the Twins on Sunday.
"He's set to be here by [Tuesday's] game,'' Green said.
Hughes will be used in the bullpen with a chance to start, at some point, if his relief work warrants it.
