Phillies and Nemours Children’s Health Go Gold for Childhood Cancer Awareness Day
Sunday’s Phillies game against the Atlanta Braves served as the team’s 10th annual Childhood Cancer Awareness Day presented by Nemours Children’s Health. Local childhood cancer warriors visited the ballpark for a day full of heartwarming moments and once-in-a-lifetime experiences. The day featured an on-field tribute celebrating the courage, strength and resilience of the youngsters and their families, who are receiving treatment or have received care from Nemours Children’s Hospital, Delaware.
The festitivites included a Lineup of Courage, with children battling or who have battled cancer lining up alongside Phillies players and staff for the national anthem. Four-year-old Jeremiah Lee, from Bear, Del., launched a ceremonial “home run,” rounding the bases with Bryce Harper and high-fiving Phillies and Braves players.
15-year-old Alivia Eder from Newark, Del., threw a ceremonial first pitch. In the outfield, members of the Phillies front office and Nemours Children’s Health unfurled a giant gold ribbon in honor of the cause.
The experiences continued throughout the day, with children affected by cancer taking part in activities such as DJ’ing for the ballpark, singing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame,” and doing an on-field skit with the Phanatic.
