Cubs-Reds postponed; rescheduled as split DH on 9/1

April 5th, 2023

CINCINNATI -- Wednesday's series finale between the Reds and the Cubs at Great American Ball Park was postponed because of rain. The decision was made following a one-hour, 43-minute delay.

The game was rescheduled as part of a day-night doubleheader on Friday, Sept. 1.

Game 1 is slated to begin at 1:10 p.m ET, with the originally scheduled night game set to start at 6:40 p.m.

In light of the postponement, the Cubs pushed their scheduled pitching probables back by one game, keeping their rotation in line. For the upcoming weekend series against the Rangers at Wrigley Field, Chicago will roll out righty Marcus Stroman (Friday), lefty Justin Steele (Saturday) and righty Jameson Taillon (Sunday).

The Reds are scheduled to begin a six-game road trip on Thursday afternoon with the opener of a three-game series at Philadelphia. Like the Cubs, Cincinnati simply pushed its probable starters back one day.

Hunter Greene, who was scheduled to pitch on Wednesday, will face the Phillies and Zack Wheeler on Thursday. Following an off-day on Friday, Nick Lodolo will pitch on Saturday and Graham Ashcraft is the starter for Sunday.

According to the Reds, fans holding tickets for Wednesday's rained-out game may present their same ticket for the makeup game scheduled on Sept. 1 at 1:10 pm with no exchange necessary. Tickets may also be exchanged for a remaining 2023 Sunday through Thursday regular-season home game, subject to availability. Some exclusions apply.
