Rutschman out of lineup again with elbow issue that could linger for rest of season

Red Sox catcher is out of the lineup for a second straight game on Tuesday as he continues to deal with discomfort from a hyperextended right elbow.

The discomfort will likely be an issue for the rest of the season, interim manager Chad Tracy said during an interview with WEEI on Tuesday afternoon.

Rutschman first injured the elbow on a swing during the first game of the team's series against the Marlins on Aug. 24 at loanDepot park. The soreness caused him to miss the final two games of the series.

Rutschman returned to play three of the four games in the Yankees series over the weekend and collected three hits in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday.

But since coming over from the Orioles in a Trade Deadline deal on Aug. 3, the three-time All-Star has struggled at the plate, hitting just .170 with a .500 OPS in 15 games.
