BOSTON – of the Red Sox took exception to a high and tight fifth-inning pitch from the Yankees’ in Boston's 6-1 win at Fenway Park, prompting umpires to warn both clubs after the benches and bullpens emptied.

Contreras’ issue seemed to be with the second pitch of his plate appearance, a 92.4 mph fastball that came up and in. Contreras walked on the sixth pitch of his plate appearance, a 95.9 mph fastball that also buzzed inside.

As he trotted to first base, Contreras jawed toward Warren. Upon Contreras reaching first, the back-and-forth continued, prompting the benches to spill onto the field. There did not appear to be any physical altercations, and play quickly resumed.

In his previous at-bat, Contreras launched his 17th home run of the season, a solo blast off Warren that gave Boston a 4-0 lead in the third inning. He also touched Warren for an RBI single in the first inning, opening the scoring in the contest.
