As the latest member of the Red Sox’s pitching pipeline reached the Majors on Friday, another young Boston arm continued to show he may not be far behind.
While No. 6 prospect Jake Bennett debuted with five strong innings in a win over the Astros at Fenway Park, No. 9 prospect Anthony Eyanson turned in another impressive outing for Greenville at Fluor Field.
Though Eyanson issued his first walks of the season on Friday, he allowed just one hit and struck out seven over 3 2/3 scoreless innings, extending his scoreless streak to 17 1/3 frames.
The 21-year-old righty now has a 0.44 ERA and a 0.49 WHIP on the year, with just one run allowed and a 34-to-3 K/BB ratio over 20 1/3 innings. Opponents are hitting .104 against him.
Among Minor Leaguers with at least 20 innings this season, only Mariners prospect Kade Anderson -- the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft and Eyanson’s former LSU teammate -- has a lower ERA (0.37) than Eyanson. No one in that group has a lower WHIP.
COMPLETE RED SOX PROSPECT COVERAGE
Eyanson, a third-round Draft choice last year, has experienced a significant velocity bump since his time at LSU, and his performance so far has put him in the conversation for a spot among MLB Pipeline’s Top 100 prospects -- and perhaps, a callup to the Majors later this season.
It might seem early to project Eyanson for a jump to MLB in 2026, but Payton Tolle (Boston’s No. 1 prospect) also started his professional career at High-A Greenville just last year and he was pitching for the Red Sox by August.
With Garrett Crochet, Sonny Gray and Johan Oviedo on the injured list and Brayan Bello sporting a 9.12 ERA, the Red Sox have had to rely on their young starters more than expected early this season. They've answered the call so far -- Tolle, Bennett and Connelly Early have combined for a 2.85 ERA over nine starts.
