BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox have added catcher Deivy Grullón and infielder Travis Shaw to the team’s 2022 Spring Training roster as non-roster invitees.

The Red Sox have now invited 25 players to Major League Spring Training camp as non-roster invitees.

Red Sox Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom made the announcement.

Grullón, 26, spent time in four organizations during 2021, hitting 10 home runs with 25 RBI in 43 games at the Triple-A level in the New York Mets, Tampa Bay Rays, and Chicago White Sox systems. The right-handed hitter began the year in the Cincinnati Reds organization but did not appear in a game before being claimed off waivers by the Rays in April. Originally signed by the Philadelphia Phillies as an amateur free agent in 2013, the Dominican Republic native has played five major league games for the Phillies (2019) and Red Sox (2020). In 649 minor league games, Grullón has hit .250 (584-for-2,338) with 80 home runs and 333 RBI.

Shaw, 31, played in 84 games between the Milwaukee Brewers and Red Sox in 2021, batting .200 (44-for-220) with nine home runs before appearing in five Postseason games for Boston. Since being selected by the Red Sox in the ninth round of the 2011 June Draft, Shaw has appeared in 726 major league games with Boston (2015-16, ’21), the Toronto Blue Jays (2020), and Milwaukee (2017-19, 2021). In 238 games with the Red Sox, he has batted .250 (187-for-748) with 32 home runs and 118 RBI. After hitting 31 home runs with 101 RBI in 2017 for the Brewers, Shaw hit 32 home runs with 86 RBI in 2018, recording an OPS above .800 in each season.
