Red Sox place first baseman Triston Casas on 10-day injured list

Club Recalls Catcher Tyler Heineman from Triple-A Worcester

BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today placed first baseman Triston Casas on the 10-Day Injured List with a left rib strain. To fill Casas’ spot on the active roster, the club recalled catcher Tyler Heineman from Triple-A Worcester.

Casas, 24, has batted .244 (19-for-78) with an .857 OPS, 12 runs scored, three doubles, six home runs, 10 RBI, and 12 walks in 22 games this season. The left-handed hitter is tied for third in the American League and tied for fourth in MLB in home runs. Originally selected by the Red Sox in the first round (26th overall) of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft, the Florida native has batted .252 (147-for-583) with an .844 OPS, 25 doubles, two triples, 35 home runs, 87 RBI, and 101 walks in 181 career games with Boston (2022-24).

Heineman, 32, has played in nine games for Worcester this season, batting .259 (7-for-27) with a .412 on-base percentage, seven runs scored, five walks, and two stolen bases. The switch-hitter has made seven starts as the catcher and one as the designated hitter. Originally selected by the Houston Astros in the eighth round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft, the California native has batted .218 (54-for-248) in 104 career games with the Miami Marlins (2019), San Francisco Giants (2020), Toronto Blue Jays (2022-23), and Pittsburgh Pirates (2022-23). Boston acquired Heineman from the New York Mets on February 2, 2024, in exchange for cash considerations.
