Isotopes, Rockies agree to four-year player development contract

The Albuquerque Isotopes announced today they have entered into a four-year Player Development Contract with the Colorado Rockies. The two clubs announced the working agreement at a press conference held this afternoon at Isotopes Park.

"The Rockies are a class organization and are a natural geographic fit for us," Isotopes President Ken Young said. "We have known them for several years and think quite highly of the people with whom we will be working. Denver is a short flight or a quick drive from Albuquerque, and our fans will easily be able to travel to see our Major League club. The Rockies will have a big presence in Albuquerque and we look forward to helping them establish their brand in this market."

The Isotopes were represented at the press conference by General Manager John Traub.

The Rockies were represented at the press conference by Executive Vice President/General Manager Dan O'Dowd, Senior Director of Player Development Jeff Bridich, and Assistant Director of Player Development Zach Wilson.

"We are thrilled to solidify our relationship with the Albuquerque Isotopes, the Albuquerque community and their baseball fans," said Bridich. "From a development perspective, we are excited that our players will train and play in a first-class facility that is managed by a group of first-class people who are committed to providing a great experience for our players."

The Rockies are the third Major League affiliate in Isotopes history, succeeding the Florida Marlins (2003-08) and Los Angeles Dodgers (2009-14).

The 2015 season will be the Isotopes' 13th in Albuquerque and begins April 9 when the Isotopes host the Reno Aces (Arizona Diamondbacks affiliate). Early during the 2015 campaign, the Isotopes are expected to welcome the seven millionth fan to Isotopes Park. Through 12 years, Albuquerque has averaged nearly 8,200 fans per game and ranks among annual attendance leaders in Minor League Baseball.
