CarGo exits with inflammation in right knee

DENVER -- Rockies outfielder Carlos Gonzalez left Tuesday night's 15-6 loss to the Nationals with right knee inflammation.

Gonzalez homered for two first-inning runs -- his fourth homer in as many games against the Nats this year, and his 24th homer since June 1 -- off Nats starting pitcher Jordan Zimmermann, then struck out in his next two at-bats. After striking out in the fifth, he didn't go into the field for the top of the sixth.

Gonzalez, who said it's possible he will return to the lineup Wednesday night, said the injury occurred in the fourth, on Danny Espinosa's double off the right-field line.

"The ball hit the line and it bounced back off the wall," Gonzalez said. "The wall has a little angle. I thought the ball was going to hit and go one way, but the ball came back the other way and I stopped really hard on my right knee and I tweaked it a little bit.

"I'll be OK for tomorrow. I was like, 'I'm a little sore. I'm going to try to stay in the game.' But, obviously, Walt [Weiss, the Rockies' manager] decided to take me out and give it a rest."

The Rockies announced that Gonzalez was listed as day to day, so there was no immediate indication that there was a major injury like the one to his left knee that required surgery last August. Gonzalez is hitting .271 with 28 home runs and 69 RBIs in a season that started with him batting .188 through May 13.
