Rockies place RHP Jhoulys Chacin on 15-day disabled list

The Colorado Rockies announced today that the club has placed right-handed pitcher Jhoulys Chacin on the 15-day disabled list with a left lower-back strain retroactive to April 20. To replace Chacin on the active roster, the Rockies have recalled right-handed pitcher Rob Scahill from Triple-A Colorado Springs. Scahill (#62) will be in uniform and available for today's game against Arizona.

Chacin, 25, was the Rockies Opening Day starter on April 1 at Milwaukee becoming the third-youngest (25 years, 84 days) in franchise history. So far this season he's 3-0 with a 1.46 ERA (24.2 ip, 4 er) with six walks and 16 strikeouts. He hasn't allowed a run over his last 8.1 innings pitched while his three wins are tied for second-most in the Major Leagues and his ERA ranks eighth in the National League. In Chacin's last outing on April 19 against Arizona, he earned his third-straight win this year after throwing 6.1 scoreless innings and allowing just three hits before exiting the game with said injury. Over his career he's 26-31 with a 3.55 ERA (436.0 ip, 172 er) in 86 games, 71 starts.

Scahill, 26, began the season with Triple-A Colorado Springs where he was 2-0 with a 4.26 ERA (12.2 ip, 6 er) and allowed 18 hits in five relief appearances with one save. Four of his five appearances have been 2.0 innings or longer. The Illinois native spent six games with Colorado last season finishing three games with a 1.04 ERA (8.2 ip, 1 er) and not receiving a decision. Scahill was an eighth round selection in the 2009 June Draft out of Bradley University and was a Spring Training non-roster invitee for the second consecutive year.

The Rockies currently have a full 40-man roster.
