Vice President-Community Relations
Ben Aken is in his fifth season as the Vice President-Community Relations. In his role, he’s tasked with overseeing all of the club’s community relations efforts, which includes Royals Charities, the team’s foundation. In 2019, the Royals provided more than 1,200 nonprofits with in-kind support and Royals Charities distributed over $1.5 million in grants to 116 area charitable organizations impacting children, education, youth baseball/softball and military families.
Aken is in his 21st season with the club, having previously served as the Senior Director-Community Relations from 2009-15. He joined the Royals in 2000 as an intern in the Community Relations Department and has served in various capacities within the department since.
Highlights of his time include helping several players earn national charitable outreach awards, overseeing more than $2.5 million in community projects as part of the 2012 MLB All-Star Game and World Series appearances and facilitating a Royals USO Entertainment Tour to Kuwait in 2018.
He grew up in Papillion, Neb., attending Omaha Royals and Kansas City Royals games throughout the summers. He graduated cum laude from the University of Nebraska with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. During his time in Lincoln, he worked in the athletic marketing office.
Aken currently resides in Kansas City, Mo.
