Vice President - Community Relations
Ben Aken is in his third season as the Vice President-Community Relations. In his role, he oversees the Royals' Community Relations Department, which includes Royals Charities. In 2017, the Royals supported more than 4,200 nonprofits and Royals Charities distributed $2.3 million to 143 Kansas City area charitable organizations that support children, education, youth baseball/softball and the military.
Aken is in his 19th season with the Royals, having most recently served as the Senior Director-Community Relations from 2009-15. He joined the club in 2000 as an intern and has served in various capacities in the Community Relations Department.
Highlights of his time include helping several players earn national charitable outreach awards, overseeing more than $2 million in community projects as part of the 2012 MLB All-Star Game and leading charitable efforts during the club's World Series appearances and multiple Opening Days.
He grew up in Papillion, Neb., attending Omaha Royals and Kansas City Royals games throughout the summers. He graduated cum laude from the University of Nebraska with a bachelor of science in business administration. During his time in Lincoln, he worked in the athletic marketing office.
Aken currently resides in Kansas City, Mo.
