October 5th, 2021

DETROIT, MI – The Detroit Tigers today announced that Gabe Ribas has been hired as the organization’s Director of Pitching, reporting to Vice President of Player Development, Ryan Garko.

Ribas, 41, joins the Tigers after spending the last four seasons as a Pitching Coordinator in the Los Angeles Dodgers system. While with the Dodgers, Ribas worked across many areas within player development, including coaching staffs, performance science, strength and conditioning, baseball analytics and others to construct and maintain a highly individualized and comprehensive pitching development program. Coordinating operations across these departments allowed him to develop and implement growth structures for all pitchers in the club’s farm system, while also assisting coaches at each affiliate in formulation and execution of data-driven development plans.

Prior to his time with Los Angeles (NL), Ribas was an Associate Head Baseball Coach at Santa Clara University (2011-17) where he had a wide range of responsibilities, including coordinating the efforts to develop and foster relationships with prospective student-athletes, managing the program’s recruiting budget and the compilation of the team’s annual game schedule. Before joining the Broncos, Ribas held similar roles as an assistant coach at the University of Northern Colorado (2010-11), College of the Holy Cross (2009-10) and Northwestern University (2007-09).

Born in Santa Barbara, CA and raised in Brunswick, ME, Ribas was drafted in the 14th round of the 2002 MLB Draft by San Diego after playing collegiately at Northwestern University. After being drafted, Ribas played four seasons between Single and Double A as a righthanded pitcher and combined to post a 34-22 record and 4.13 ERA (379.0IP/174ER), walking 104 batters and striking out 304. He then went on to play three seasons in the Canadian-American Association, completing his final season as a player in 2007.
