Inaugural Fundraiser Event Benefits National Cancer Organization, Be The Match, While Raising Awareness about Donation Network

August 16th, 2023

CHICAGO – Chicago White Sox pitcher Liam Hendriks and his wife Kristi will hold a fan tailgate event at Guaranteed Rate Field to recognize Lymphoma Awareness Day prior to the evening game on Friday, September 15 vs. Minnesota.

Tickets to the exclusive fundraiser and awareness event, which include a $20 donation benefiting Be The Match and its extensive network of bone marrow recipients and donors, are available now at whitesox.com/liamtailgate.

Fans must have a tailgate ticket to enter the event and are invited to join the bone marrow registry with a simple cheek swab taken by on-site representatives from Be the Match.

Beginning at 4 p.m., the event includes food and beverages and features a 45-minute music set by popular television personality “DJ” Pauly D in Lot B (northeast corner of 35th and Shields) of the ballpark. The MTV Jersey Shore cast member, who signed a three-album deal with 50 Cent's G-Unit Records, has been an advocate for cancer-related initiatives, including performing at fundraisers supporting cancer research and surprising fans who are battling pediatric cancer.

Fans also will have the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets to win autographed items from some of their favorite White Sox players.

Hendriks, the White Sox Roberto Clemente club nominee, announced he had been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma in early January and began treatment the following day. Just months later, the two-time Mariano Rivera American League Reliever of the Year (2020-2021) announced he was cancer-free on April 20. Throughout his journey, the Hendriks family continued to raise nearly $130,000 in support of lymphoma research through the “Close Out Cancer” T-Shirt campaign.

Be The Match, operated by the National Marrow Donor Program, is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to helping patients receive the life-saving transplants they need. As trusted leaders in advancing treatments for those facing life-threatening blood cancers, the organization provides ground-breaking research, innovative technologies, patient support and education that helps save lives. Be The Match has facilitated more than 120,000 blood stem cell transplants, including more than 6,700 transplants in the last year alone, giving countless patients hope for a brighter future.
