So what’s next? Here are some frequently asked questions:

What could the postseason roster look like?
C: Martín Maldonado, Dustin Garneau
1B: Yuli Gurriel
2B: Jose Altuve
3B: Alex Bregman, Abraham Toro
SS: Carlos Correa, Jack Mayfield
Utility: Aledmys Díaz

Who will they play in the first round?
As the No. 6 seed in the AL, the Astros will travel to play the No. 3 seed Twins in a best-of-three series at Target Field.

When is the Wild Card Series?
The AL Wild Card Series is a best-of-three series that begins Tuesday, with Game 2 on Wednesday and Game 3 (if necessary) on Thursday. All three games will be played at Target Field.

When must the Astros set their roster?
Postseason rosters, like the regular season, will be comprised of 28 players. Each team must set their roster on the morning each round begins.

Are there any currently injured players that will be ready for the playoffs?
The Astros are as healthy as they’re going to get in a season in which they’ve lost many key players to injuries. The only player currently on the injured list who could be back this season is reliever Josh James, who was placed there Friday for undisclosed reasons. Beyond that, none of the sidelined impact players -- a group that includes ace Justin Verlander, closer Roberto Osuna, designated hitter Yordan Alvarez and relievers Chris Devenski and Brad Peacock -- will be back.

What will the postseason rotation look like?
Veteran Zack Greinke is set to start Game 1 on Tuesday. Manager Dusty Baker hasn’t announced a starter for Game 2, but Lance McCullers Jr. will be the starter for Game 3, if needed. That leaves Jose Urquidy and lefty Framber Valdez as the two candidates to start Game 2. It could depend on the matchup. The White Sox are 14-0 against left-handed starters, which could convince Baker to start Urquidy if the Astros play in Chicago.

McCullers went 3-3 with a 3.93 ERA in 11 starts in 2020, including a 2.18 ERA and an 0.94 WHIP in his final eight. Since his return from the injured list, McCullers hasn't allowed an earned run, walked four and gave up seven hits while striking out 24 batters in 17 2/3 innings over three starts.

How many times have the Astros made the playoffs?
This is Houston’s 14th playoff appearance in the franchise’s 59-year history, including its fifth in the last six years (2015, ’17-20). This is the first time in club history the Astros have made the playoffs four consecutive years. Houston is 49-57 all-time in the playoffs, including 28-22 as members of the AL (since ’13).

How many times has Dusty Baker been to the playoffs as a manager?
This is Baker’s 10th appearance in the playoffs as a manager and he’s the first skipper to take five different teams to the postseason. He took the Giants to the playoffs in ’97, ’00 and ’02, when he won the NL pennant. Baker led the Cubs to the playoffs in ’03, the Reds in ’10, ’12-13 and the Nationals in ’16-17. His teams have a 23-32 record in the postseason and have advanced only twice (’02 with the Giants and ’03 with the Cubs, who lost in the NLCS). Since 2003, Baker’s teams have lost 10 consecutive postseason games in which they had a chance to advance.

What happens if the Astros advance?
The final three rounds of the postseason will take place at neutral sites, and if the Astros win the Wild Card Series, they would play the best-of-five AL Division Series at Dodger Stadium, where they clinched the 2017 World Series. The ALCS will be a best-of-seven at Petco Park in San Diego, and if they make it to their third World Series in four years, they’ll return home to Texas to play at Globe Life Field -- the new home of the Texas Rangers. The Astros won’t play at Minute Maid Park again this year.
