Rodón (left elbow inflammation) to IL; Grisham, McMahon return to Yanks

July 3rd, 2026

NEW YORK -- The Yankees lost another starter on Friday as left-hander was placed on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to Tuesday) with left elbow inflammation. In a series of corresponding moves, third baseman and outfielder were reinstated from the 10-day injured list, and utility player was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Rodón last pitched on Sunday in a 5-4, 10-inning loss to the Red Sox, allowing two runs on one hit -- a two-run single -- and four walks while striking out six in five innings. Both runs were unearned after a Cabrera error. Rodón had been scheduled to start Saturday against the Twins.

Rodón said the elbow has been bothering him for a couple of weeks. But after playing catch on Wednesday, he felt it had to get looked at. Rodón had imaging done on the elbow, and it revealed that he didn’t have any damage to his ulnar collateral ligament.

Rodón is expected to get a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection, and he will not throw for at least a week.

“Throughout the week, [the elbow] hasn’t been agreeing with me,” Rodón said. “The recovery has not been so great over the last few weeks. Still, I got out there to pitch, which was great, but this week it caught up [to me]. It was not giving in to throwing.”

Rodón, 33, was an All-Star in 2025. After beginning the '26 season on the injured list following offseason surgery to remove a bone spur in his left elbow, he has gone 4-2 with a 3.30 ERA in nine starts. Rodón has two years remaining on a six-year contract that concludes following the 2028 season.

“I feel like stuff-wise, [Rodón] has been good, so he has been getting to his outing and being all right for the most part,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. “He is a gamer, tough guy. For the most part, he was getting there and the stuff was good. Maybe it had an effect on his command a little bit where his walks were a little higher. Is that a contributing factor? Maybe.”

Grisham's return was expected, following a rehab assignment with Double-A Somerset. He started in center field on Wednesday, going 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and a run scored. Grisham had injured his right hamstring on June 12 in Toronto.

McMahon, who had a throat infection, was supposed to join Grisham for rehab games in Somerset, but he was scratched with food poisoning.
