November 19th, 2022

HOUSTON, TX — The Houston Astros have tendered contracts to eight of their nine arbitration-eligible players. Players receiving contracts for the 2023 season were IF/OF Mauricio Dubón, RHP Cristian Javier, RHP Phil Maton, RHP Ryne Stanek, LHP Blake Taylor, RF Kyle Tucker, RHP José Urquidy and LHP Framber Valdez. The one player non-tendered was RHP Josh James.

The deadline for Major League clubs to tender contracts to their arbitration-eligible players is tonight at 7 p.m. CT.

James, 29, made 30 minor league appearances in the Astros system this season but did not see any Major League action. He finished his year on the Astros 60-day IL, while recovering from a right lat strain. James has been with the Astros organization for the last nine years since being selected in the 34th-round of the June 2014 draft. He made 73 Major League appearances with Houston across parts of four seasons (2018-21).

With the removal of James, the Astros 40-man roster is at 35 players.
