Futures Game rosters are STACKED

June 30th, 2021

After a one-year hiatus, the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game is back and showcasing more prospect talent on one diamond than any other baseball event of the year.

As it did in a format change introduced in 2019, the Futures Game will pit the American League against the National League in a seven-inning game, this time July 11 at Coors Field in Denver. Thirty-two of the 50 players selected to the initial rosters rank among MLB Pipeline's Top 100 Prospects, including six of the top eight: Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman (No. 2), Tigers corner infielder Spencer Torkelson (No. 3), Mariners outfielders Jarred Kelenic (No. 4) and Julio Rodriguez (No. 5), Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. (No. 7) and Padres shortstop CJ Abrams (No. 8). Rutschman and Torkelson were the No. 1 overall picks in the last two Drafts.

Other position prospects who will appear in the Futures Game include Giants shortstop Marco Luciano (No. 12), Tigers outfielder Riley Greene (No. 15), Blue Jays shortstop Austin Martin (No. 16), Yankees outfielder Jasson Dominguez (No. 24) and Braves outfielder Drew Waters (No. 25). Top pitchers set to take the mound include Marlins right-hander Max Meyer (No. 20), Mariners righty Emerson Hancock (No. 23), Cardinals left-hander Matthew Liberatore (No. 27), Pirates righty Quinn Priester (No. 37) and Reds lefty Nick Lodolo (No. 43).

MLB Network will televise the game, which will also stream on MLB.com and air on SiriusXM, at 3 p.m. ET. Scott Braun, Yonder Alonso and Jonathan Mayo will call the action, with Heidi Watney reporting from both dugouts.

Four of this year's Futures Gamers played in the 2019 contest, which ended in a 2-2 tie after eight innings: Kelenic, Cardinals third baseman Nolan Gorman (No. 28), D-backs outfielder Alek Thomas (No. 62) and Giants outfielder Heliot Ramos (No. 63). Ramos appeared in the 2018 game as well.

Two-time All-Star Vinny Castilla, who won three Silver Sluggers and the 2004 NL RBI crown for the host Rockies, will manage the NL team. His counterpart in the AL dugout will be LaTroy Hawkins, a key reliever on Colorado's 2007 World Series club.
