HOUSTON -- 's first trip back to Houston as an A’s player was a special one, as the Oakland infielder received his 2022 World Series ring prior to Friday’s game.

Díaz, who signed with Oakland in December, spent four seasons with the Astros as a utilityman, helping the Astros win their second World Series last season.

“I spent four years of my career here, three World Series, and to finally get the World Series win last year, it is something that I will always have in my heart, on my mind,” Díaz said. “It’s going to be a special moment for me today.”

Díaz described coming back to Houston as “unbelievable,” even though he will be in the visiting dugout.

“It feels like home,” Díaz said. “It’s tough to be on the other side’s dugout, but it’s part of the game. I enjoyed my four years here. I learned a lot. Great teammates that became friends and family.”

Díaz is off to a slow start this season, batting .165 with one home run and six RBIs. He hit .243 with 12 home runs and 38 RBIs in 92 games for Houston. He played in eight postseason games, including three during the World Series.

“That group knows how hard we fought for that ring,” Díaz said. “It’s something that I am going to cherish, and have for my whole life.”
