Blue Jays boast revamped prospect rankings after Deadline flurry

HOUSTON -- Everybody can exhale now. After six trades over a hectic 24 hours, the Blue Jays have finally made it through a complicated Trade Deadline.

If we had to pick one “label,” they were sellers, but they did that while also making one of the biggest splashes in baseball by adding right-hander José Soriano from the Angels for a package headlined by No. 2 prospect Arjun Nimmala. Elsewhere, they stockpiled prospects for the future.

“We’re fortunate that we were able to add some Major League pieces to a group that we feel like can compete,” GM Ross Atkins said. “Ultimately, we had to make the decision that we were determined to do what was best for the organization and try to optimize things, given a situation that was less than ideal. We feel good about our outcome.”

Here’s a look at the new guys in Toronto’s farm system:

Dasan Hill, LHP, High-A Vancouver Canadians

Acquired in: The Jeff Hoffman deal from the Twins
Pipeline scouting report: No. 6 prospect
Organizational fit: Hill is all upside, a big left-hander who touches 99 mph. He’s struck out 160 batters in 107 career Minor League innings, but he’s also walked 77, so the Blue Jays will need to reel in that tremendous talent. There’s reliever risk here, but also a very high ceiling as a starter.

Ty Southisene, INF, High-A Vancouver Canadians

Acquired in: The Kevin Gausman deal from the Cubs
Pipeline scouting report: No. 17 prospect
Organizational fit: Southinese is a spark plug, an on-base machine who doesn’t hit for any power (zero homers in 157 games), but gets on base at a very high clip. He fits the model the Blue Jays like as a contact hitter, and is batting .306 with a .425 on-base percentage this season.

Brett Bateman, CF, Triple-A Buffalo Bisons

Acquired in: Gausman deal
Pipeline scouting report: No. 20 prospect
Organizational fit: Another prospect who makes a ton of contact and gets on base -- but doesn’t hit for much power -- Bateman’s path to the big leagues will be driven by his strong defense in center field. Now that Daulton Varsho has also been traded to the Astros, Bateman could get his first shot at some point down the stretch in 2026.

John Klein, RHP, Triple-A Buffalo Bisons

Acquired in: Hoffman deal
Pipeline scouting report: No. 25 prospect
Organizational fit: The 24-year-old made his MLB debut earlier this season and has posted a 5.91 ERA in Triple-A, working strictly as a starter. That’s where he’ll continue to develop for now, and he’ll have an opportunity to move into a depth starter’s role in 2027 and beyond, which would be valuable given how many injuries the Blue Jays have dealt with this season.
