OAKLAND -- A's right-hander will make his first Minor League rehab start on Thursday with Class A Advanced Stockton against Rancho Cucamonga, Oakland manager Bob Melvin said Monday.

Bassitt, 30, opened the season on the injured list. He was competing for Oakland's fifth starter's job when a sharply hit ball left a bruise on his right shin in an exhibition game during the A's trip to Japan.

Bassitt recorded a 5.40 ERA in four Spring Training appearances. He allowed six runs on 13 hits in 10 innings, with one walk and 12 strikeouts. Last year, he went 2-3 with a 3.02 ERA in 11 games (seven starts).
