The Trade Deadline is Aug. 3 at 6 p.m. ET. Here's a quick look at some of the hot topics swirling in the rumor mill.
• Dodgers' stance on Skubal: According to MLB Network insider Jon Heyman, the Dodgers have been indicating that they are only mildly interested in Tigers ace Tarik Skubal, with starters Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow working their way back from the IL. However, other teams aren’t so sure. Writing for the New York Post (subscription required), Heyman notes that a number of rival clubs suspect the Dodgers are underselling their interest in Skubal.
• Mariners starters available: The Mariners are letting other teams know they are open to trading one of their prized starting pitchers for a right-handed bat and/or late-inning reliever, according to USA Today.
• Rays looking to add: The Rays are planning to be aggressive buyers at the Trade Deadline, with interest in the Tigers’ Tarik Skubal, the D-backs’ Ketel Marte and the Giants’ Luis Arraez, according to USA Today. That said, Marte has a full no-trade clause and is expected to veto all deals.
• San Francisco holding Webb, Lee: The Giants are open to trading everyone besides starter Logan Webb and outfielder Jung Hoo Lee, according to MLB Network insider Jon Heyman in an article for the New York Post (subscription required).
• Sandy staying put: The Marlins are planning to not only keep Sandy Alcantara through this year’s Deadline but also “add strategically,” according to a report from The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal.
• Yankees' limited catching options: The Yankees need help behind the plate and “are making it no secret that they want to acquire catcher Hunter Goodman of the Rockies or Minnesota Twins catcher Ryan Jeffers,” according to USA Today. However, Colorado is unlikely to move Goodman (controllable through 2029) and Minnesota could retain Jeffers (a pending free agent) if it remains within striking distance of a playoff berth.
