Patrick all good after temporary vision scare during latest start

MILWAUKEE -- ducked into the small bathroom off the Brewers’ dugout after the first inning on Tuesday and got sick. That happens all the time, said the 27-year-old right-hander, often multiple times during his starts. It’s become a normal part of his game days.

But what happened next was not normal. As Patrick completed his warmups before the second inning, he says his vision became jumbled for 15-20 seconds. Home plate hovered above the hitter.

“It felt like my eyeballs were at the top of my head,” Patrick said. “It was definitely a weird feeling -- a feeling I don’t want to have again.”

After a visit from head athletic trainer Brad Epstein, Patrick was able to continue his outing, and he actually carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning of the Brewers’ 13-2 win over the D-backs at American Family Field. Patrick walked five but only allowed one hit, James McCann’s two-run single that snuck through the left side of the infield after Patrick walked the bases loaded to start his final inning in the fifth.

Patrick had his blood pressure checked after leaving the game and spent the rest of the night hydrating.

Everything checked out after his scare.

“I was pretty worried for myself for a second,” Patrick said. “I definitely want to get that checked out.”
