Halton down as Wooten brought up to bolster 'pen
Infielder makes way for righty reliever with solid numbers at Triple-A
MILWAUKEE -- After Thursday's 10-8 loss to the Padres, the Brewers received some pitching help, optioning infielder Sean Halton to Triple-A Nashville and selecting right-handed reliever Rob Wooten's contract.
Wooten will join the Brewers' bullpen for Friday's game when the team starts a seven-game road trip in Colorado.
Halton hit .200 over 19 games with the Brewers, with one home run and two RBIs in 45 at-bats.
"[Wooten has] got a nice cutter, locates the ball well," Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said. "He doesn't walk a lot of people, he throws strikes. You can trust to bring him into a ballgame and he'll put the ball over the plate. He's done a really nice job this year."
Wooten had a 2.94 ERA and 20 saves in 40 appearances with the Sounds this season. He struck out 45 hitters and walked 12 in 52 innings.
Roenicke said a motive for Wooten's callup was playing three games at the hitter-friendly Coors Field, followed by four games in three days at Wrigley Field.
"We need a little help in our bullpen, just where we were today," Roenicke said.
