CLEVELAND -- Vahn Lackey, the No. 3 overall pick in the recent MLB Draft, has agreed to terms with the Twins on a contract, two sources told MLB.com.
The deal, which is said to be for $9,497,500 -- the second-highest MLB Draft bonus of all time behind 2026 No. 1 pick Roch Cholowsky -- is pending a physical. The slot value for the No. 3 pick was $9,740,100, and the Twins’ total bonus pool is $16,929,600.
The club has not confirmed the agreement, and no announcement is expected before the end of the week, though it’s possible a contract will be signed as early as Tuesday or Wednesday. The club expects to agree with all of its selections, a source said Monday.
Lackey, who turned 21 earlier this month, was a two-year starter at catcher for Georgia Tech, emerging as a top Draft prospect with a huge 2026 season at the plate for the Yellow Jackets. He slashed .397/.519/.772 with 20 home runs and 15 stolen bases, and the Twins expect he can stick at catcher in the Minor and Major Leagues.

He’s the Twins’ highest Draft pick since they took Royce Lewis first overall in 2017. The last time Minnesota took a catcher with its first Draft pick was 2001, when it selected Hall of Famer Joe Mauer.
