Mets sign first baseman Allen to Minors deal

The Mets on Thursday signed first baseman Brandon Allen to a Minor League contract with an invitation to Major League Spring Training.

Allen spent last season in the Mets' system, playing in 98 games for Triple-A Las Vegas in the Pacific Coast League. He hit .266 with 13 home runs and 52 RBIs.

The 28-year-old Allen made his Major League debut in 2009 with the D-backs, and he has also played for the A's and Rays. In 116 Major League games, Allen owns a .203 average.

Allen was selected by the White Sox in the fifth round of the 2004 First-Year Player Draft.
