What's at stake for NYY, HOU, TEX, LAA tonight

The Yankees lost both ends of a doubleheader to the Orioles today. A win on Sunday in Baltimore, or an Astros loss vs. the D-backs either tonight or Sunday, would assure the American League Wild Card Game presented by Budweiser would be played at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday night.

The Rangers blew a four-run lead in the ninth inning against the Angels earlier today, losing, 11-10. They have already clinched at least a Wild Card spot, but they can still clinch the AL West tonight if Houston loses to Arizona, or with a win over the Angels or a Houston loss on Sunday.

All possible postseason tiebreakers explained

The Astros have not clinched a playoff berth, but can still win the AL West or secure a Wild Card spot. If the Astros win their next two and the Rangers lose on Sunday, they would finish tied for the division lead. The Astros and Rangers would then play a one-game tiebreaker to decide the AL West champ on Monday in Arlington, based on the Rangers winning the season series between the clubs (13-6). The loser would head to the AL Wild Card Game. If the Astros and Angels finish the season tied for the second Wild Card berth, they would play a one-game tiebreaker on Monday at Minute Maid Park, based on the Astros winning the season series between the teams (10-9). If the Astros win a Wild Card spot and finish tied with the Yankees, the AL Wild Card Game would be at Minute Maid Park as the Astros won the season series, 4-3.

The Angels rallied for a late comeback against the Rangers today, remaining in the hunt for an AL Wild Card spot. They need an Astros loss tonight to climb even with Houston, in which case a win Sunday would guarantee at least a one-game tiebreaker on Monday in Houston.
