Padres sign LHP Baumann to 1-year deal

The Padres signed left-hander Buddy Baumann to a one-year deal on Monday.

Baumann, 28, spent the 2015 season with the Royals' Triple-A Omaha affiliate. He was 3-4 with a 3.04 ERA in 34 appearances (six starts), striking out 84 batters while walking 25 in 77 innings.

He was initially selected in the seventh round of the 2009 Draft by Kansas City.

To make room for Baumann on the 40-man roster, the Padres designated catcher Josmil Pinto for assignment. The 26-year-old Pinto was selected off waivers from the Twins on Nov. 20 and is a .257 career Major League hitter in parts of two seasons with the Twins.
