Right fielder Nick Torres was 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs Thursday night to lead streaking low Single-A Fort Wayne to a 6-2 win over South Bend, and into first place in the second-half standings of the Midwest League's Eastern Division.

Torres leads the Midwest League with 29 doubles, and has moved into second in the batting race with a team-leading .326 average.

The TinCaps have a 42-41 record, but are 14-8 over their last 22 games. They are 10-5 in the second half.

Torres, 21, the Padres fourth-round pick in the 2014 draft out of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, was not the only offensive weapon in the Padres' farm system Thursday.

• Left fielder Nick Schulz, 23, who signed with the Padres as an undrafted free agent out of San Jose State after the 2014 draft, hit two home runs in four at-bats with high Single-A Lake Elsinore for three RBIs. Schulz (.246) is 4-for-8 over his last two games with a double and three homers and four RBIs, giving him seven homers on the season.

• First baseman and former Padre Tommy Medica (.258) was 3-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored for Triple-A El Paso.

There was one move in the organization Thursday. With a left-handed reliever rejoining El Paso on option from the Padres, the Chihuahuas optioned right-handed starter Bryce Morrow back to Double-A San Antonio.
