Team to watch
The Padres' big league roster, as well as those of the club's Double- and Triple-A affiliates, will be home to half of the club's top 10 prospects in 2016, but the Fort Wayne TinCaps offer the best all-around roster, with nine of the Padres' Top 30 prospects. The TinCaps' starting rotation will feature Austin Smith, Logan Allen, Jacob Nix, Enyel De Los Santos, Phil Maton and Jean Cosme, while shortstop Ruddy Giron and outfielder Michael Gettys headline the team's crop of positional talent.

New faces
In December, the Padres acquired Manny Margot, Javier Guerra, Allen and Carlos Asuaje in the Craig Kimbrel trade, and they'll begin spread throughout the system, with Margot and Asuaje closest to the Majors starting at Triple-A El Paso. Rule 5 Draft picks Jabari Blash and Luis Perdomo both made the Padres' Opening Day roster -- and have already debuted -- while De Los Santos and Cosme, acquired by San Diego in separate offseason deals, will open the year in the Midwest League.
On the shelf
Ryan Butler, the Padres' seventh-round Draft pick in 2014, will serve a 50-game suspension to begin the season following a second positive test for a drug of abuse in early February. The right-hander reached Double-A for the first time last season but also missed more than two months with a shoulder injury. He finished the year working out of the bullpen at Lake Elsinore, and then returned to a starting role in the Arizona Fall League.
