SAN DIEGO – The San Diego Padres have acquired right-handed pitcher Zach Davies and outfielder Trent Grisham from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for left-hander Eric Lauer, infielder Luis Urías and a player to be named later or cash considerations, Executive Vice President/General Manager A.J. Davies, 26, posted a 10-7 record with a 3.55 ERA (63 ER, 159.2 IP), a .256 opponents average, 102 strikeouts and 51 walks across 31 starts for the Brewers in 2019. In 2017, his 33 starts tied with three others for the most in the National League and his 17 wins tied with Zack Greinke for second in the NL, trailing only Clayton Kershaw’s 18. Originally drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 26th round of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft, the Puyallup, Wash. native was acquired by Milwaukee in exchange for outfielder Gerardo Parra on July 31, 2015. Over parts of five Major League seasons with the Brewers, Davies has a 43-32 career record with a 3.91 ERA (267 ER, 614.1 IP), 434 strikeouts and 180 walks in 111 appearances (all starts).

The 23-year-old Grisham hit a combined .300 (111-for-370) with 22 doubles, six triples, 26 home runs, 71 RBI, 71 runs scored and 12 stolen bases across 97 games between double-A Biloxi and triple-A San Antonio in 2019. The 15th overall pick in the 2015 First-Year Player Draft also made his Major League debut for the Brewers in 2019, appearing in 51 games and hitting .231 (36-for-156) with six doubles, two triples, six home runs, 24 RBI and 24 runs scored. He made 36 starts (14 in center field, 13 in right field and nine in left field) and posted a 1.000 fielding percentage (0 errors in 70 total chances). The 6-foot, 216-pound left-handed hitter earned Brewers Minor League Player of the Year honors in 2019 and was named the organization’s Minor League Player of the Month for May, June and July. The Burleson, Texas native also earned Southern League Mid-Season All-Star honors and was named Southern League Player of the Week on June 2 after homering in four consecutive games.
