Assistant General Manager
Josh Stein enters his fifth season as assistant general manager, after being promoted to the post in December 2013. Stein's primary responsibilities include assisting Executive Vice President/General Manager A.J. Preller in all player acquisitions as well as roster, payroll and budget management. He is involved in all contract negotiations, including coordinating the club's salary arbitration efforts, while also managing the Padres' statistical analysis and video scouting systems.
2018 marks Stein's 16th season with the Padres. He first joined the club as a baseball operations intern in the summer of 2003. He interned through the 2005 season and was named advance scouting coordinator in 2006. Following the 2009 season, Stein was named director of baseball operations.
A 2000 graduate of the University of California, Berkeley with a degree in psychology, Stein traveled and taught English in South America before earning his Juris Doctor from the University of California, Hastings College of Law in 2005.
Stein and his wife, Laura, reside in San Diego with their daughters, Emma and Jessie.
