Boston Red Sox Set 2013 Opening Day Roster

The Boston Red Sox set their 2013 Opening Day 25-man roster by making the following moves:

- Placed pitchers Craig Breslow (left shoulder tendinitis) and Franklin Morales (low back strain), and designated hitter David Ortiz (right Achilles tendinopathy) on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 22.

- Selected outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. to the active major league roster.

- Designated infielder Mauro Gomez for assignment.

Executive Vice President/General Manager Ben Cherington made the announcements.

The 2013 Opening Day roster includes 12 pitchers, two catchers, six infielders and five outfielders.

The Red Sox open their 113th season tomorrow on the road against the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium beginning at 1:05 p.m.  Left-handed pitcher Jon Lester will start for Boston and be opposed by New York left-hander CC Sabathia.                                                                                                                                                    

The Red Sox 2013 Opening Day Roster:

PITCHERS (12): Alfredo Aceves, Andrew Bailey, Clay Buchholz, Ryan Dempster, Felix Doubront, Joel Hanrahan, John Lackey, Jon Lester, Andrew Miller, Clayton Mortensen, Junichi Tazawa, and Koji Uehara.  

CATCHERS (2): David Ross and Jarrod Saltalamacchia.

INFIELDERS (6): Mike Carp, Pedro Ciriaco, Jose Iglesias, Will Middlebrooks, Mike Napoli, and Dustin Pedroia.

OUTFIELDERS (5): Jackie Bradley Jr., Jacoby Ellsbury, Jonny Gomes, Daniel Nava, and Shane Victorino.
