The Boston Red Sox today acquired Minor League outfielder Eric Filia from the Seattle Mariners as the player to be named later in the trade that sent left-handed pitcher Roenis Elias to Seattle on April 23.

The Boston Red Sox today acquired Minor League outfielder Eric Filia from the Seattle Mariners as the player to be named later in the trade that sent left-handed pitcher Roenis Elias to Seattle on April 23.

Filia, 25, was ranked by Baseball America as the No. 14 prospect in the Mariners organization following the 2017 season. The outfielder has hit safely in each of his 13 games with Double-A Arkansas this season, batting .426 (23-for-54) with 10 runs, three doubles, one home run, 14 RBIs, a .508 on-base percentage, and a .537 slugging percentage. He has drawn nine walks compared to only four strikeouts. A native of Huntington Beach, CA, the left-handed hitter has spent his entire career in Seattle's farm system since being selected in the 20th round of the 2016 June Draft, batting .343 (272-for-792) with 117 runs, 50 doubles, six triples, 10 home runs, 119 RBIs, 114 walks, 68 strikeouts, and an .888 OPS in 210 career games. He has been named a post-season All-Star in each of his two full professional seasons, also earning MVP honors in the Short-A Northwest League in 2016.
